Stated Purposes
Inclusivity and access to the democratic process is a core value of the Democratic Party. The requirement for in-person attendance at meetings and party functions is a significant barrier to participation by some members. The purpose of this council is to remove this barrier.
Stated Mission
This council strives to enable full participation in Democratic Party activities, regardless of location, ability to travel, or other barriers to attending a central meeting in person.
Stated Goals
- Design a meeting infrastructure that enables hybrid, remote, and in-person participation at State Committee Meetings. This includes voting, debate, and full participation, from local participants as well as remote attendees.
- Recommend parliamentary procedures to allow full participation during hybrid meetings.
- Share best practices and proven solutions across the state, to counties and to legislative districts, so they may host inclusive, hybrid meetings.
- To the extent possible, provide advice and technical consulting to counties and legislative districts implementing hybrid meetings.
Stated Activities
- Host meetings to discuss recommendations and best practices for hosting hybrid meetings across our districts, counties, and the state.
- Propose bylaw recommendations that help facilitate hybrid meetings.
- Recommend budgets and estimate costs for conducting hybrid meetings.
- Advise and guide the State Committee to enable utilization of available technology so that our State Committee meetings support full participation of all members regardless of location.
- The committee shall recommend infrastructure options to conduct such meetings.
- The council shall advise the State Committee on techniques, methods, and recommended resources for conducting remote and hybrid meetings with full participation.
- Support Democratic caucuses, councils, clubs, and districts by providing roadmaps to making meetings hybrid and inclusive, identifying opportunities to share expertise and resources.
Rationale: One of the many things that hurt us in this election is that potential Democratic support did not turn out and engage. We wish to make the state meetings more accessible and facilitate participation across the state. This helps lower barriers to engagement for all potential Democrats.
